Whilst Walt Disney World has alerted the state of Florida that it will lay off around 6,700 non-union employees, discussions are still ongoing with a number of unions at both Disney World and Disneyland.

As unions continue to negotiate with Disney, more details regarding the layoffs have started to emerge. According to a Facebook post by UNITE Here Local 11, approximately 950 of their nearly 3,000 members will be laid off:

Local 11 Statement on Disney Layoffs: UNITE Here Local 11 just learned that Disney will lay off approximately 950 of our nearly 3,000 members, effective November 1st.

The Union will engage in bargaining with the company over issues including job security and healthcare coverage.

This highlights the urgent need for AB 3216, the California State law that guarantees recall and retention for hospitality workers. We are asking Governor Gavin Newsom to sign AB 3216 now.

Call Governor Newsom at (916)-445-2841 and urge him to sign AB 3216.”
