Disneyland Food Service Workers Union: Over 2,500 Members Expected to be Laid Off

As more information about the U.S. Disney layoffs emerge online (which we review), a statement from Workers United Local 50 estimates that over 2,500 members are expected to be laid off.

The statement from the union, which represents food service workers at Disneyland, can be read in full below:

Memberships: As you all know, the company announced this afternoon that after 7 [seven] months of closing, Disney will being to suffer the dismissal of 28,000 executive members, non-unionised, employees and trade union members between Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Cast Members of Local 50 will be included.

There’s a lot of information we don’t know now and we’re scheduled to meet with Disney in the next few days to learn more and negotiate the effects.

Here’s what we know now: it has yet to be determined who will be subject to layoffs. Contract and negotiation will determine this. Firing notice to Local 50 members is scheduled for Nov 1 The non-unionized, salaried and executive cast is starting to receive notice now. Real end dates will be set in the notice. Over 2500 members of Local 50 are now expected to be fired.

10,150 employee layoffs of the 28,000 have already been announced – 6,700 non-union Walt Disney World employees, 950 members from Local 11, and over 2,500 members from Local 50.
