Original Article: It’s officially official! Universal Orlando Resort’s newest roller coaster will be called Jurassic World VelociCoaster and it is set to open summer 2021.
Universal Orlando made an official announcement today, several days following the name of the coaster was “leaked early” on the Jurassic Park page of Universal Orlando’s website.
The coaster, which has been under construction at Universal’s Islands of Adventure for some time now, features more than 4,700 feature, and reaches speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.
Universal is dubbing it a “new species of roller coaster” which will feature “a series of intense maneuvers.”
Maneuvers include a 360-degree barrel roll right above the Islands of Adventure lagoon and a zero-gravity inverted stall which will send riders upside down across 100 feet of track.
Jurassic World VelociCoaster will also feature a “top hat”, which will propel riders 155 feet into the air before they plunge into an 80-degree drop.
The VelociCoaster is the first coaster based on the Jurassic World franchse, and will feature an original story. Characters from the film including Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) will make an appearance.
The upcoming attraction will be the newest addition to the Jurassic Park themed-land at Islands of Adventure, which currently features Jurassic Park River Adventure and raptor encounter.
