‘The Princess and the Frog’ star Jennifer Cody is elated that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is taking at the Disney theme parks (in particular Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom). It replaces the controversial Splash Mountain following years of uproar.
Cody, who voiced Charlotte Las Bouff in the film, told TMZ that she appludes Disney for finally deciding to keep up with the times and replacing Splash Mountain’s animatronics due to its racist themes.
For those who might not know, Splash Mountain was based on Song of the South, which has been heavily criticised for its racist depictions of Southern black men and its representation of the antebellum South.
Cody told the entertainment outlet that it was about time the hateful and hurtful ride was taken down. Whilst she’s happy Disney is investing in black stories. Cody hopes that people on the ride can look past Tiana’s “black princess” concept.
Disney revealed yesterday that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure would open at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom this summer. You can find out more here.
