In a recent thread on Reddit, fans discussed the future of The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Florida.
FYI: The discussion took place on the fan-run Universal Orlando Resort community page of the social media platform.
User u/MovieFanZ5026 started the thread titled ‘How much longer do you think Simpsons will be around?’ with the following:
“No I want it I’m not a big fan of The Simpsons Ride. There’s some cool creative things that they do but I’m more like the restaurant and the food options more than the ride. I’m still partial to Back to the Future traction but I had this thought:
How much longer do you think we [Universal Studios Florida] will actually have the Simpsons area for? Now that Disney owns Fox, the Simpsons are not under our name anymore. I think it will be after Epic Universe opens but I could see a couple [of] years after that they transition from Simpsons.
Also, what would you change it to? That’s a pretty big area in Universal. I don’t want them to change it to Harry Potter because we [already] have a huge area for that as well.”
Some of the replies to this subject are fascinating to read. You can read several of them below:
u/acandrews12: “Rumours are that the lease ends in 2028. Now that Disney owns the rights, I highly doubt Universal extends the lease.”
u/Milla4Prez66: “The contract for the theme park rights expires in 2028. I think Disney would be willing to negotiate on this since I don’t think they would want to use The Simpsons in their parks and they make money of all the food and merchandise Universal sells from the IP. With that said, I can’t see Universal wanting to invest in this IP into the 2030s, especially since Comcast seemingly wants to move off their party IPs that aren’t Potter or Nintendo. I think they opt to replace Simpsons and I predict they announce it shortly after Epic Universe opens, like in 2026 or so. I suspect Universal Studios Florida is going to get a major makeover in the years following Epic Universe’s opening.”
u/captainn00dles: “The Simpsons is a weird legal mess as is they were making stand-alone attractions outside of Universal. They built a 4D theater and Kwik-E-Mart with the company that designed the ride. Though personally, I would like to see Universal keep the license and maybe build new rides. Personally, I’m not a fan of the current ride. I don’t like it’s a screen ride where they sandwich you into a cart with random people.”
u/No-Abbreviations6662: “Wishful thinking but I’d love to see a Spongebob-themed area and ride.”
