As with any kind of rumour, this information should be considered unofficial until Walt Disney World officially confirms.
For years, the Animal Kingdom show has been rated the number one show at Walt Disney World. However, the show hasn’t returned since the park reopened following its closure due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
With the need to increase park capacity under the restricted limitations Disney has presently set at 35% remain hard. Apart from adding capacity to attractions whilst still social distancing, Young says the next step is to start bringing back shows to Walt Disney World.
Disney currently restricts seating in theater shows to every other row, and then still allowing space between parties. Consequently, most theater capacity remains at 25% of what they can normally hold.
Young says in some situations where there are no Cast Members that are paid to perform those shows were brought back instantly. Shows where are no Cast Members perform include Enchanted Tiki Room and Carousel of Progress.
However, shows like Feathered Friends in Flight, which was altered to include no Equity Entertainment employees also opened in the summer last year. Now Young says Festival of the Lion King might open in 2021 if Theme Park University’s sources are correct.
Once again, the Theme Park University writer says no Equity Cast Members will be used in this modified version of the show. Which is the majority of the singers, dancers, and acrobats. Instead, the script will be changed and most likely the show will be a sing-a-long style that will feature music from the Lion King film.
Young says Disney could still make use of the floats and costumed characters that normally populate the theater as well.
Once again, as with any kind of rumour, this information should be considered unofficial until Walt Disney World officially confirms.
