The Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island will both undergo an extensive refurbishment starting the 5th October, according to the Walt Disney World refurbishment calendar.
Because the refurbishment is listed through early 2021, this suggests to us that there will be an extensive amount of work done.
If we had a good guess, the length of work suggests to us that Rivers of America will be drained so that crews can access the track which the Liberty Square Riverboat runs along.
The Rivers of America was last drained back in 2018 when crews worked on a section of the river itself. It’s reasonable to think that refurbishment work could target a different section of the river from Splash Mountain past Big Thunder Mountain, essentially cutting off access to Tom Sawyer Island.
However, please keep in mind this is just speculation based on the refurbishment’s timescale.
Disney has not revealed any details regarding the refurbishment yet. Stay tuned to Orlando Theme Park Zone for the latest on this project.
