Update: In a new article by The Orange County Register, Disneyland officials released a statement regarding the removal of the song from the music loops:
“The removal of the song from Downtown Disney’s background music is part of a continuous process to deliver an environment that features stories that are relevant and inclusive.”
Disneyland has reportedly also removed two mentions of the Song of the South from the Splash Mountain webpage on Disneyland’s website.
Original Article: Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, a song originally from Song of the South and the main theme of Splash Mountain, has been discreetly removed from the Disneyland Resort music loops across Downtown Disney and the Esplande.
The iconic song was usually played between the Frozen medley and The Ballad of Davy Crockett, but no plays with the rest of the loop. As illustrated in the video below:
Lots of fans have wondered how the attraction would “retconned” from the Disney parks, including Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, following the announcement of Splash Mountain being rethemed to Princess and the Frog.
Whilst merchandise sales keep going strong at Disney World, it would appear that Disneyland has started to erase Splash Mountain from the park.
Splash Mountain is set to reopen with Disneyland Park at Disneyland Resort. An official closure date has yet to be announced for the start of the reimagining.
