One of the many things EPCOT fans have wanted for years has been a redo, aka reimagining, of Journey Into Imagination With Figment in Future World. When Disney officially revealed their plans for an EPCOT, the Future World attraction was left out from the overhaul plans.
Fans were hoping that the attraction might receive a refresh in a later phase of the EPCOT overhaul, however with Disney “tightening the purse strings” in the next few years as the travel industry recovers from a global pandemic, any Future EPCOT overhaul phases (aka plans) could be years, if not decades in the future.
That being said, former Walt Disney World Imagineer Tony Baxter recently suggested the idea of a Journey Into Imagination With Figment redo. Talking at a TEA@USC event last night, Baxter said that he (“we” – Disney) wished he could do the ride over:
“I just wish we would do the ride over. I would come back out of retirement to do that ride over.”
In case you’re unaware, Baxter came out of retirement (to an extent) to work on the reimagining of Splash Mountain into a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction. Baxter will serve as a creative advisor on the project after having worked on the original Splash Mountain.
