Saturday Night Live (SNL) will be getting the first dedicated venue opening at Universal Orlando CityWalk in 2021, according to Theme Park University’s Josh Young (Young).
SNL is one of the most iconic brands under the NBCUniversal umbrella. SNL has been a Saturday night tradition since 1975 and has been responsible for the biggest names in Comedy.
This “all comes from a push” via Comcast to add as much intellectual property (IP) into Universal Parks as possible.
If a location doesn’t have an NBCUniversal brand attached…it’s fair to suggest it’s been considered to be “upgraded” to an IP based restaurant, bar or a gift shop.
According to Young, he’s heard for quite some time that after The Today Café opened at Universal Studios Florida, the next brand to make its way into Universal Orlando would be SNL.
Not only does Young feel strongly about this rumour, Young believes the announcement of this venue might be in the not-so-distant future.
Where would the SNL venue be located in CityWalk? Young believes it’s perfect for the Red Coconut Club in the upper level. The space has a decent footprint and it has two floors.
More importantly, the location could also contain an area dedicated to SNL merchandise in addition to a bar.
Young says if this all lines up, the Red Coconut Club could be closing in the next few months. Thus, Young believes a SNL venue could open at CityWalk sometime in 2021.
