This is excellent news! Universal Orlando (Resort – UOR) employees are getting a pay rise early next year as the resort’s minimum wage increases from $12 to $13, the company revealed on Wednesday last week.

UOR spokesman Tom Schroder confirmed the pay rise, however he declined to provide additional details, including which month the change “would take effect”.

Earlier this year, Universal leaders revealed they are building a 3rd theme park in Orlando called Universal’s Epic Universe (Epic Universe). The company plans to launch a massive hiring spree to create 14,000 brand new jobs.

By the time Epic Universe opens, which is expected in 2023, the minimum salary will jump to $15 an hour, the company revealed in a news conference back in August.

“This is what we believe is appropriate and what we want to do. I’m a strong believer…of the concept [to] take good care of our Team Members.

If we do that, they’ll take care of our guests…And if we do that, we’re going to make a fair and reasonable profit. That’s going to allow us to reinvest in our community.”

Tom Williams, Universal Parks and Resorts CEO

It’s fair to suggest Universal competes for employees with Walt Disney World Resort, which came to an agreement with it union workers to increase pay to $15 an hour by October 2021.
