Smart Moms Travel CEO Lauralyn “LJ” Johnson has spoken out after Disney cut ties with the travel agency. NBC Connecticut (NBC CT) spoke to her over Zoom.
Johnson is standing by her social media claims that some of the travel agents (agents) stole from her company.
She said she has no proof and she is withholding their commissions because she said that agents breached their contracts. However, all the agents NBC CT spoke with denied stealing.
Johnson said the vast majority of agents with Smart Moms Travel are contractors, and they do their own taxes and that she only sent termination letters are they resigned.
However, one of the agents NBC CT spoke with said they never resigned and were sent a termination letter. Johnson claims the agents stole from her company in two ways, a claim multiple current and former agents denied.
Firstly, she alleges agents were arranging vacations directly with Disney and cutting Smart Moms Travel out of the commission.
“I do not have proof of this,” Johnson told NBC CT. “I believe that my leadership team was working behind the scenes with Disney. I need to hire somebody. I need to have my books examined. But our numbers don’t match, and my reporting staff fled the scene. They resigned.”
Johnson said she never took the concerns she had to Disney. In fact, Disney in response denied the allegations.
Secondly, she claims that the top level management in Smart Moms Travel were working with accounting and payroll to pay out more commission money than what was owed to the agents.
“I don’t think any of the team leaders were paying any split to the agency at all. And again, I didn’t see that in writing but the math makes sense that they’re doing the splits properly,” Johnson told NBC CT.
Johnson also said she plans to withhold payments to her agents because she believes they breached their contracts by violating the non-compete clauses.
“I have no yet missed a payroll. I do not owe them any money until the end of the month. I do not plan to run that payroll as plan because of the legal situations that are happening,” Johnson said.
Johnson abruptly ended the interview after NBC CT’s interviewer continued to press Johnson on why she was withholding payroll. Stay tuned for further udpates as this is a follow up from our previous article
