Guests who are visiting some of Walt Disney World’s most popular shops have noticed that Disney is removing cash registers in favour of Mobile Checkout through the My Disney Experience app.
The removals were very noticeable last year when two cash register stands were removed from the Island Mercantile shop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It looks like Disney could be removing more registers from well-liked shops including the Emporium at the Magic Kingdom and possibly Mickey’s of Hollywood at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Whilst each of the shops will still have a normal cash register setup, it would appear that Disney is trying to encourage guests to use the Mobile Checkout feature.
FYI: The Mobile Checkout feature was first introduced back in 2020. At this time, the feature is available at “nearly a dozen locations” across Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Springs.
During a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, Blog Mickey’s Mike noticed that the cash registers have been removed from a register island in the central section of the Emporium. He points out that a register island was already removed from a nearby section a while ago.
Cast Members in the section didn’t know why the register island was closed. However, Mike suggests it could have been removed for more merchandise floor space or another reason. X user @FiBelleFi posted two photos (see below) of the now-closed register island.

Let us know in the comments below what you think about the idea of using the Mobile Checkout feature instead of a Cash Register. We’re interested to find out!
