As with any kind of rumour, this information should be considered unofficial until Universal Orlando officially confirms.
According to Theme Park University’s Josh Young, the Blue Man Group (BMG) may never return to Universal Orlando.
Prior to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Blue Man Group hardly sold out shows during the last few years. According to Young, seats were only filled in roughly half of the show’s theatre.
The established outlet’s writer says the entire back section of seating would have a giant curtain in pulled in front of it and guests who booked in that section would receive a complimentary upgrade.
The significant difference between operating Blue Man Group and La Nouba* is that Blue Man Group is/was a lot cheaper show to run. From the talent to the band and even the tech crew, Young says it cost a fraction to run BMG at Universal Orlando. Consequently, lower crowds were considered financially viable for the show.
*La Nouba has been replaced by Drawn to Life Presented by Cirque du Soleil.
Young is hearing that the show will not be returning to Universal Orlando in 2021 or ever. It would appear that Universal wants to take the soundstage back and make it part of Universal Studios Florida again.
Bare in mind, that particular soundstage was used for Nickelodeon when the park first opened in 1990 and was then taken away from the overall capacity of Universal Studios Florida to add BMG in 2007.
At this time, Young seems to think that Universal Studios Florida would add another show to the former BMG theater in 2022. Please bare in mind, they are still panning on adding at least one new attraction in Universal Orlando every year.
The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly put a pause on developments they were considering. Now it would appear that they could add an existing Universal show (not found in Orlando) to Universal Studios Florida. What could that show be? We’ll hopefully find out soon!
Nevertheless, since the theater already has 1000 seats, a stage and a lobby holding area, it makes sense that this unknown show could be a quick add to Universal Studios Florida.
