Stardust Racers was manufactured by Mack Rides. In a one-on-one interview with WESH 2 News, Mack Rides CEO Christian von Elverfeldt addressed the fatal incident on Stardust Racers at Universal’s Epic Universe (Epic Universe).

“I’m really sorry for this poor family and guy, but we don’t know yet what really happened. We only know that the ride work very well,” von Elverfeldt told WESH 2 News.

Von Elverfeldt added, “We don’t know yet what really happened. We only know that the ride worked very well. All the specialists said the ride worked perfectly.”

When questioned about the safety of Stardust Racers and other attractions built by Mack Rides, the CEO said, “Safety is, of course, the most important thing because there are human beings on our rides, and maybe 12 months, 10 hours a day. So, this is most important to us.”

This is the first time the company has talked about the tragic incident publicly. WESH 2 News spoke to the CEO at this year’s IAAPA Expo at the Orange County Convention Center.

On the 17th September, 2025, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala rode Stardust Racers at Epic Universe. He was found unresponsive once the roller coaster’s train returned to the loading station.

He was transported to hospital where he sadly died. According to the Orange County Medical Examiner, Zavala died from multiple blunt impact injuries. You can find out more the tragic incident in the links below:
