According to an X post by Scott Gustin, Walt Disney World is in the initial stages of “land permitting” for the Beyond Big Thunder Mountain expansion at the Magic Kingdom.
Disney will file permits with the South Florida Water Management District for initial land preparation work for the expansion in the next few weeks. Beyond Big Thunder Mountain is expected to be the largest expansion in the theme park’s history.

Back when it was announced in 2022, Disney said that they were exploring concepts to introduce Coco, Encanto, and a Villains-theme area beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the northern portion of Rivers of America.
Since the 2022 announcement, Disney has changed the plans for the reimagining of DinoLand U.S.A to include Encanto and Coco. So, it’s fair to suggest that the altered plans sent Walt Disney Imagineers back to the drawing board.
