A couple is suing Universal Orlando after one of them reportedly suffered a “traumatic brain injury” after riding Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida, according to a recently filed lawsuit.
Geriann and Richard Clem are “seeking action” against Universal City Development Partners, LTD. for “personal injuries and damages” in excess of $50,000, the lawsuit stated (via Fox 35 Orlando – F35O).
On the 11th February, 2023, Geriann said that she rode the Universal Studios Florida roller coaster. Whilst riding, she alleges her “head shook violently and slammed into her seat’s headrest throughout the duration of the ride,” the lawsuit states (via F35O).
“This towering coaster offers a musical twist: As you strap in, you’ll pick the song you want to hear above your own shrieks. Adrenaline pumping and music thumping, you’ll climb toward the sky at a 90-degree angle and tackle the first ferocious drop. Topping out at 65 mph, this rip-roaring ride is a blast from beginning to end.”

The lawsuit states that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit also reaches heights of 167 feet and has twists, turns, drops and flips. The lawsuit alleges that the roller coaster didn’t provide it riders with any head restraints.
The lawsuit claims that Universal Orlando/Universal Studios Florida “failed to warn” Geriann that her head would be shaken and slammed against the headrest and the park’s warning signs posted outside the ride were “inadequate.”
Geriann suffered “severe and permanent personal injuries” as a result of the riding Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, including brain injury, physical impairment and mental anguish, according to the lawsuit.
The couple is requesting a jury trial. You can read the lawsuit in full below:
