It’s fair to suggest that the glow of Mel’s Die-In (Drive-In) neon sign is a staple of Halloween Horror Nights for many, even though Mel’s Drive-In at Universal Studios Florida has been closed for refurbishment since June and is expected to remain closed during Halloween Horror Nights 32 (HHN 32).
While guests were saddened by the restaurant’s temporary closure, they were even more upset when the neon sign remained off during the Team Member preview of HHN 32.
The Hollywood portion of Universal Studios Florida was more darker with the Mel’s Drive-In neon sign off during the Team Member preview. Whilst it made things more spooky, things just didn’t feel the same.
Due to the refurbishment, the restaurant’s power has been disconnected meaning the sign has been off. The news of the sign being off during HHN 32 was a massive disappointment to guests/fans. The idea of the neon sign being turned off had many sharing their opinions.
Following a significant amount of feedback, power will now run specifically to the sign during HHN 32 to create the atmosphere guests/fans love. Even though the sign will be on, the restaurant will remain closed as refurbishment continues inside.
Update: It’s official! The Mel’s Die-In sign is on! A video and photos can be found below.
