Controlled Burn to Take Place 25 Miles West of Walt Disney World Resort

-

A large controlled burn will be conducted in Sumter County sometime during next month. The controlled burn will be conducted in the Withlacoochee State Forest/Green Swamp and will impact around 24,128 acres.

The area is located around 25 miles west of the Walt Disney World Resort (Walt Disney World). The burn is set to happen over a three-day window at some point starting today, 30th January, 2020 and continuing through the month of February, 2020.

These controlled burns will be done in small sections. Since the burn will produce a large amount of smoke, some areas of Walt Disney World may be impacted by this event. Dispersal of the smoke depends on winds and weather conditions.
